The Baha'i community of Glasgow has been in existence for more than half a century, expanding from just a few intrepid believers in the smoky industrial city of the early 1950's, to a vibrant, inclusive and welcoming community of more than fifty people. The Bahá’ís of Glasgow come together from a wide variety of personal and ethnic backgrounds and the broadest possible age range.
Glasgow is a uniquely outgoing and open-hearted city, and its Bahá’í community reflects this warm local spirit: the Bahá’ís hold a number of neighbourhood-based gatherings for prayer; for the moral and spiritual education of children and young people; and for the discussion of and reflection upon the Word of God.
Bahá’ís engage in the life of the city not only through these regularly organised activities but also through the simple personal attempt by each and every member of the Bahá’í community in Glasgow, in common with their fellow Bahá’ís across the world, to live up to the guidance of the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, Bahá’u’lláh, in their daily lives: to ‘possess a pure, kindly and radiant heart’ and ‘to be worthy of the trust of thy neighbour and to look upon him with a bright and friendly face’.
